A note about education tax

The City of Medicine Hat has a legal obligation to collect the education requisition from you through property taxes, but that money is then transferred to the province. The highest and most dramatic increases occurred in the last two years.

In 2026, more than $32.5 million dollars (24% of what we collect from Medicine Hat property owners) goes to the Government of Alberta to fund education.
